Of late, all big and midsized carmakers are focusing on the Crossover SUV segment including the Japanese and German car giants. Opel is also following this trend, as is evident from its latest moves. It does not have too many Crossovers in its portfolio except the Mokka X. Things are set to change as the company is gearing up to introduce a SUV built on the Insignia model. It is likely to be released sometimes in 2018.
2018 Opel Insignia SUV – Body Styles Changes and other Options:
While the final design details of 2018 Opel Insignia SUV is yet to be revealed, the sedan will be the base. The SUV however will be based more on GM’s C1XX modular platform. The same platform will be used by the company for manufacturing many upcoming crossover models. The 2018 Opel Insignia SUV will be made for both Australia and UK market and thus using this platform makes sense. It allows the flexibility of using right or left-handed steering positions. It would be marketed both as Ope; and Holden model, based on location. There is no doubt that the Opel Insignia 2018 will have some curvature on exterior, given the body design of the sedan. The same thing can be said about the cabin materials and design. The SUV is likely to be a large one, given the Opel is already testing an Insignia sedan that is way bigger than the 2016 version. It may have a sloping and coupe-like profile. However, Opel is trying to ensure the upcoming SUV is lightweight in size. The E2XX platform which the 2016 Chevrolet Malibu was based on has high-strength steel and so it can be assumed the Opel Insignia SUV will also have a robust body. The SUV is likely to have some fancy and useful features like Matrix LED headlights, IntelliLink infotainment coupled with Smartphone connectivity. Opel cannot afford to ignore the amenities section given most crossover SUVs are replete with options.
2018 Opel Insignia SUV – Main Power Production Unit
It is not clear as to what powertrain will be seen in the upcoming 2018 Opel Insignia SUV. Industry buzz is that the crossover SUV will have Front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive will be offered as an option. Both diesel and gasoline engines can be there. Opel may also introduce a hybrid version though it cannot be confirmed now.

The 2018 Opel Insignia SUV is likely to be showcased at the 2016 Paris Auto Show by the end of year. Before that, the company may actually unveil the Insignia hatchback model, as per the updates. The upcoming 2018 Opel Insignia will be pitted against rivals like Ford Edge. As of now, nothing is known about pricing of the model.
