Land Rover is in the process of introducing a coupe-like SUV that will increase competition in this segment of cars. Expected to get the name, Range Rover Sport Coupe, the upcoming car will be positioned between the Range Rover Evoque and the normal Range Rover Sport. So it will borrow a lot of features from these two models.
Range Rover Sport Coupe – Exterior and Interior Design
According to the British carmaker, the Sport Coupe will be built on the Jaguar F-Pace architecture. With this design platform, which involves the use of aluminum in most parts of the body, the new car will definitely be lightweight. It is anticipated to be lighter than the Mercedes-Benz GLE & BMW X6. As for the size, the SUV will be of the same size as the Mercedes-Benz GLC & BMW X4. In the front end, the Range Rover Sport Coupe will spot a blacked-out lower fascia complimented by DRLs. A slim trapezoidal grille and innovative headlights will be installed above this fascia. The sides will feature steeply raked roofline which will give the car a coupe shape and 21-inch alloys wheels built for on-road use. In the rear end, there will be a new exhaust system and sturdy overhangs.
The interior of the Range Rover Sport Coupe is expected to be a luxurious one. Land Rover doesn’t disappoint when it comes to designing car cabins. Some top quality materials, fine finishes and sophisticated equipment will find their way in the interior space. The car is designed to fit 5 passengers, so you can expect a 2+2 seating arrangement. There will also be a cargo compartment at the rear side of the cabin. When it comes to technology, the Land Rover SUV coupe will borrow a lot of technological features from the existing Range Rover Sport. There will be a revamped infotainment system consisting of a wider display screen, an updated navigation unit and a reliable audio unit. You can look forward to other tech features such as an automatic climate control unit and connectivity options like Wi-Fi, Smartphone app integration, Bluetooth and USB ports. The Range Rover Sport Coupe will also be equipped with safety and security features. According to the automaker, the car will get seatbelts, lane departure warning, wade sensing, airbags, traffic sign recognition, adaptive cruise control, reverse traffic detection, parking assist and closing vehicle sensing.
Range Rover Sport Coupe – Engine and Performance
The Sport Coupe will share powertrains with the normal Range Rover Sport. So it will have a 3.0-liter V6 rated at 350 hp and 335 lb-ft. An option to this engine will be a 5.0-liter V8 with a capacity of 540 hp and 465 lb-ft. According to some rumors, a hybrid powertrain might also feature in the new Land Rover SUV. The two supercharged engines will be backed by an 8-speed automatic transmission system. With the V6 powerhouse, the car will take 6.9 seconds to achieve the 0-60-mph acceleration and 5.2 seconds with the V8 drivetrain. Concerning fuel economy, the Range Rover Sport Coupe will record 18 mpg in the city & 23 mpg on the highway and 15 mpg in the city & 20 mph on the highway with the V6 and V8 engine respectively. As for pollution, the car will offer reduced CO2 emission rates.
Range Rover Sport Coupe – Release Date, Price and Competition
The starting price of the Land Rover Sport Coupe will be around $85,000. The premium models will sell at higher prices, so expect to break the bank to own them. The top trim level is tipped to cost around $120,000. Buying the car will only be possible at the end of 2017 as this is the time it will hit showrooms and dealers’ shops. The new Range Rover Sport Coupe will be rivaled by vehicles like BMW X6, Mercedes GLE-Class, Porsche Macan and Audi Q7.
